TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF LOST POST!!

OK, friends! This post goes out to WYSOL, secret fan of LOST POST.

The name of this episode was "Some Like It Hoth," because old Hurls was writing the script to The Empire Strikes Back. But ALSO FORESHADOWING because Luke Skywalker went to Hoth once AND lost his hand and Dr Marvin loses his hand during The Incident, lolwut.

Related Lostpedia page: Missing Body Parts.

I also read the wikipedia entry for the movie "Some Like It Hot" (yeah, I haven't seen it) and that seems to be about crossdressing to flee from gangsters. Could not find any LOST CLUES all up in there. And that page led me to the nursery rhyme that features the words "some like it hot", which also is utterly unrelated. Neat!

Lara Chang rents an apartment in 1985 Encino for 400 dollars a month. From Young Miles, we get a vision into what it looks like to be psychic and it turns out that it means your thoughts look like a TV show with super-rapid editing. Miles talks to a non-rotting corpse and yells "mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom," upon which Mom comes a-running.

If you want to hear this post in Spanish, please access the audio controls of your internets.

SAWYER: If anyone asks, I'm off the grid. I'm looking for the escaped Hostile.
MILES: YOU MEAN YOUR PAL, SAYID?

Miles, thanks for the assist. It's like you knew I would be rewatching this episode after a two month break, and would therefore forget who was doing what!

EASTER EGG - The pylons look like dongers!!

Photobucket

Because Sawyer isn't there, Horace tells Miles that he's going to bring him (Miles) into the "Circle of Trust," and sends him off into the Hostiles' territory to pick up a dead body.

"The Circle of Trust" was the name of my drum circle/fellowship group.. in college.

Photobucket

It sure was nice of the Hostiles to build and maintain a road leading into their secret area.

RADZINSKY: Miles? What are you doing out here? I was expecting LaFleur.

"Surely that explains why I just jumped out of the trees with this gun pointed at your face!"

Photobucket

Miles gets confrontational about this guy's death with Radzinsky in spite of Radzinsky's anger management problem and current gun-having status. Radzinsko (predictably) flies off the handle, and then Miles just interviews the dead guy anyways.

Photobucket

Miles rocks his skunk stripe, flannel hoodie, skinny jeans and pierced face while grilling his dying mother about her dead spouse.

While pondering Miles' age in this scene, I looked at Lostpedia's timeline, and found out that Miles was born in 1977. And so were Hurley, Kate, this guy, Ethan Rom, and possibly Faraday.* So, all of those people are supposed to be the same age.

And while finding out how old William Mapother (Ethan) actually is (44), I also found out that he is Tom Cruise's cousin. Ehh, only semi-interesting.

Photobucket

During this scene, Hurley and Miles are listening to "It Never Rains in Southern California". I AGREE.

Hurley didn't notice the stink of the dead body while he was putting the sandwiches in the back, but he does notice it halfway through the ride. Convenient! Then Miles makes a great effort to keep the dead guy a secret:

HURLEY: Pull over.
MILES: Forget it. You're imagining things.
HURLEY: Will you pull over?!
[Miles pulls over.]

Hurley finds the dead guy; Miles explains his powers, letting us know that he can't talk to people who've been burned. That turns out to be important for this episode (with the dad who hires Miles to talk to his dead football-playin' son), but will it be important again later?

(Probably not.)

Photobucket

Naomi doesn't care that stalking someone at work is AGAINST THE LAW.

Photobucket

When Roger Workman found out that Ben was gone, he FREAKED out and stormed out of the infirmary. Looks like he didn't quite finish sounding the alarm bells and instead decided to get drunk on the swingset. It's all a part of his plan.

Kate tries to console Roger and he calls her on the bullshit. Kate, why not just wear a shirt that says "HEY ROGER, I AM INVOLVED IN THIS!"?

Photobucket

HURLEY: [to Chang] Don't worry. I won't tell anyone about the body.
DR. CHANG: [To Miles] He knows?

OOOOOOOOOOOOPS! For an even more ham-fisted approach, how about a wacky sound effect as well?

Dr. Chang goes on to make a POOP JOKE! POOP

On a non-poop-related note, it's not clear why Dr. Chang wants a dead body at the Orchid site.

And at the end of this scene, Miles tells us that Dr. Chang really is his father OMG!

Photobucket

Naomi throws a stack of cash at Miles so he'll talk to this dead guy. Miles' face gets twitchy and we hear a lot of whispering. We learn that the guy, Felix, was working for Wids (and may or may not have been killed by Mr. Friendly, because Sir Friends had Felix's papers later on)!

EASTER EGG: You'll never guess what restaurant kitchen Naomi kept the dead body in!

Photobucket

AMIRITE?

(No.)

Photobucket

Roger stomps in and says "This room is on my rounds." Then he cleans one desk, spills his mop water, drinks a beer and leaves. Great job!

And, as a teacher, I have to point out that Jack did a terrible job of erasing the boards. Jack clearly does not know that proper erasing etiquette means you have to do more than smear the chalk around. **

Photobucket

Miles was just enjoying his visit to Tacos Tacos Tacos Tacos*** when he got dragged off by thugs in a van.

Photobucket

One of those thugs was Bram, who is OMG on the island with Ilana and Locke's corpse!**** Bram tells Miles that they are the good guys. Good guys often shove you into a van, is what I have noticed.

I was looking up the phrase "We're the good guys" on Lostpedia to find out who-all has said it, and that led me to this page of Regularly Spoken Phrases on Lost. Oh really? The word "alone" is a regularly spoken phrase? Along with "We're here", "Dad", and "What did you do?" Hmmm.

Here's a pic of Bram calling Richard Alpert to find out what lies in the shadow of the statue:

Now that I have seen Mad Men, I want Phil to call someone "garbage".

PHIL: I thought that after three years of working together, I'd give you the benefit of the-- [gets punched in the face by Sawyer].

Photobucket

Miles takes his angst about his father out on this poor guy.

MILES: If you needed your son to know that you loved him, you should've told him when he was still alive.

Ouch! Parents whose children have died need people to tell it like it is! Great job at keeping it real, Miles.

Photobucket

Miles becomes convinced to talk to his father after Hurley's compelling "Ewoks" argument:

HURLEY: In Empire, Luke found out Vader was his father, but instead of putting away his lightsaber and talking about it, he overreacted and got his hand cut off. I mean, they worked it out eventually, but at what cost? Another Death Star was destroyed, Boba Fett got eaten by the Sarlacc, and we got the Ewoks. It all could've been avoided if they'd just, you know, communicated. And let's face it. The Ewoks sucked, dude.

I think we know where Miles and Dr. Marvin are headed for their bonding session.

And the cliffhanger is... FARADAY.

OK, one LOST POST down and three more to go. Stop sending your thugs over to shove me in their vans.

If you need some LOST-related entertainment during the off-season, DarkUFO is doing brackets/tournaments/voting to determine the best episode and best character, and they are also collecting predictions for what will happen in Season 6. Check out the various brackets here. At least look at the one called "2010 Lost Prediction League," because it is quite amusing. Examples:
  • What will be the first word spoken in the Season 6 Premiere?
  • In what Episode will we first see Rose and Bernard together?
  • Where will the last scene of the series take place?
  • In What episode will Claire first appear?
  • In which episode will we first hear the phrase "Son of a Bitch"?
  • In which episode will we learn the true name of the man in black/flocke/anti-jacob?
  • In which episode will we first see the Black Rock crash on the island?

I think you have to make an account to do this, but if you do, check out my bracket for best episode here and see how many I've gotten wrong already.

Vote for the episodes here.

* And most importantly, ME

** Shout out the people who teach before me and don't erase the board.
